Leo9 Productions is a not-for-profit theatre company, established in Melbourne in 2002. We feature a range of performers and creative professionals who are all in it ‘for the love’ of producing quality theatre. We have certainly come a long way since the early days….when everything was pretty much improvised, ‘borrowed’ or held together with gaffer tape! And after a few ‘nomadic’ years performing in all sorts of halls and venues around Melbourne, we are thrilled to call the Cromwell Rd Theatre in South Yarra our current home. Many people ask about the origins of our name – Leo9; it comes from the word ‘leonine’ or ‘lion-like’. Consider the lion for a moment – proud, courageous, heroic, majestic and daring. The lion is often referred to as the star of life’s drama – but despite their apparent ‘ego’ and passion for all things dramatic, they are by no means solitary animals. Lions are loyal, generous and nurturing and always act in the interest of the pride. Much like the mighty lion, we believe in the importance of working for the benefit of the whole pride….which is why we tend to favour ensemble pieces when we select our productions. Whether its an old English farce, our an Australian panto, we think our history of productions is as diverse as the amazingly creative people who have joined us on stage - and we look forward to more of the same in the years to come! The Leo9 crew continue to be impressed with the calibre of talented people who have worked the company since that first production in 2002 – from professionals through to very gifted amateurs – and everything in between! We are always looking for more people to join our ranks – be it in an on-stage or back-stage role. If you’re interested, please contact us at leo9_productions@hotmail.com
